Gen1 99 Avalon Maintenance

I am the original owner of a 99 Avalon approaching 200,000 miles. Other than oil changes and new tires, the only major work has been replacement of the timing belt (recommended by Dealer) at 100,000 miles. Any suggestions on what major items I should have checked out at this milestone?

You have done great!!! I can't believe you have not lost at least one A/F sensor or had IACV problems. Good for you!

I would have to believe that your struts and strut mounts (at least on the front) are shot. Does your car drive like a floating boat?

I'm not sure what you consider "major". Have you been changing all of your fluids on a routine basis, eg coolant, PS, brake and ATF?

I give all the credit to the vehicle and its manufacturer ... amazingly well-built machine. Actually, the suspension does feel a bit sloppy. At the next oil change, I will ask to have that checked. We have replaced all the fluids at the recommended intervals, when prompted by the dealer. Strangely, the dealer that we now use (we moved) is not proactive on maintenance issues; so I best double-check on the fluids. Would really like to see just how far this car will go with proper preventive maintenance!

You do know that all of that was perceived right? Everyone knows Toyota builds junk and none of them are reliable.

Sorry, had to make fun of ignorant GM fans there for a moment.

But yes, I would say the suspension is probably gone. The rear end on my 98 Avalon with 129,000 miles is super bouncy.
