Anotter Rack & Pinion Question

I am in the process of replacing the rack & pinion on a 1997 Avalon. I have disconnected the fluid lines, removed the mounting bolts and the pinch clamp bolt on the steering input shaft.

The problem is that the input shaft will not release from the clamp. I've tried to pry open the pinch clamp, but no success. I've tried pulling the rack out the passenger's side, but the input shaft/pinch clamp prevents it from coming out. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Take it to a mechanic. You probably need a special Service Tool, to pull remove that part.

I used a long screwdriver/prybar and hit the knuckle from the top. It's slow going but it finally releases. Use the same technique for installing the knuckle.
