gas lid wont open

i recently have also had problems with my lid to my gas tank not opening.. i tried to get gas but my car wouldn't let me.. and i was on E... wtf.. i greased the cables and what not to asssurre they r all working fine.. there is a lil piece of black plastic on my hindge.. i believe there might have been a spring there and was wondering if anybody could b so helpful as to take a picture and send it to me so i could compare? thanks guys

I had a similar problem. To solve it I wedged the release handle so that it stayed pulled up, and then you can pry the cover open. I did that for a while to fill the car, but it's just a duct tape fix.

After about 6 months of that I got tired of it, and went to Ace hardware. You can buy a spring there that you can attach to the screw inside the cover door. Now it pops open as it should. I may have to replace the spring though as it's getting a tad rusty.
