De-Haze/Yellow Headlights

Anyone had success dehazing/deyellowing their headlights ('95 Avalon XL)? I was just curious--I just saw a Pep Boys coupon for this service for $49.95 (reg $69.95).

Just wondering how it's done+ what supplies are needed....

Any help/suggestions/advice greatly appreciated

There's several types of plastic polish for what you'er describing....headlight polish.

Get a power (buffer) ball (Mother's) and have a wack at it.

Doublehorn seems to get the best reviews. It includes a clear protective spray coating to stop the lens from yellowing again.

I've not tried it yet but will probably pick some up because the product I used, Blue Magic Lens Restorer, worked great, but after a year the lens started looking grungy again.

The headlights were noticeably brighter after polishing with Blue Magic.

This is another product that claims to be a permanent solution but I haven't found any independent reviews to back it up.

If it helps, I saw this My Headlight stuff at the local Wal-Mart today on clearance for $15.

I used the 3M kit from Wal-Mart for $18, featured in this how-to video

It would have been nice to have the clearcoat to finish it off with though, as I'm sure they will get yellow again eventually.

I left these pics pretty big so you can click on the bar and zoom in on them.

I shaved those tiny nipples off, which made the entire surface much easier to clean.

My 96 has a haze also but it's on the inside of the lamp.

That means you have sealing problems. You only have two choices. Take apart lens (PITA) or buy new one.

HATEnFATE, that's not good-sorry to hear it! Now I'll have to do a thorough inspection then; I don't want to do all the work to the exterior and be potentially left with the choices IMDisaster mentions....

I use Brasso for the lights on my 7th Gen Corolla. Works well and doesn't cost much to buy. Comes in handy for lots of other things too.

Here's some before and after photos:

Before you spend any $, try WHITE tooth paste, the old fashioned kind.
You might be surprised at the results.
