AC Problem

I have a 98 Avalon XLS and my AC light started blinking the other day and noticed the air does not blow cold. I also noticed when the AC light is on and blinking, there is a squealing sound coming from the car. When i depress the AC button, the squealing goes away immediately.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? Which part is the culprit?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Seized compressor? The sound could be the belt slipping on the pulley.

What IMDisaster said. You'll need to visually inspect the compressor/clutch assembly and go from there....

Loose belt will do that, compressor may be locking up also.
