Gen1 serious thoughts and advice please

Hi there everyone

Ok I made a post about the radiator and so forth.
I really been doing some deep thinking about my
cooling /timing belt situation.

My 96 has 192,thousand plus a few. I am the third owner.
I just replaced the rack and the rack that was in was a trw so
I at least know who ever had it replaced things with good parts.

The car has been driving fine and no over heating issues
there is just a strong hot smell after parking it. I have flushed
the radiator every year having it 4 years so am I trying to repair parts that are still good?

That being said I got a quality water pump and timing belt.
I just dont want to spend time and money if it is not really needed.

I do not know how good the timing belt that it has is. I have always
used the prestone water pump conditioner each time I have flushed it.

I guess I am just trying to be responsible with the car I love it a lot.
I dont want it to break down or be ruined. What happens if the timing belt goes out does it ruin the entire motor?

Thanks everyone

well if it was me, and if you have never changed the timing, i would go and do it, and i have really never digged into my avy yet, but if the timing is off and if the water pump is there i would change it all at once, i also own a supra turbo and most of the stuff i buy is from toyota and only toyota, but other parts depends what it is, i go to a local store, owning my avy is like owning my supra cant really put cheap parts into it, i have put cheap parts into when i first got it like the brakes, and it never lasted, until i put toyota parts just like my supra, also i usually put the toyota red antifreeze since it came with it, but i would do the water pump since your in the mess of doing the timing belt, so that way you can feel good about your car not breaking down, and then get into the mess again. also i have 240k in my avy and its a 95, i had it for 3-4 years and i still can do 30+mpg and its all stock, just a system.

if the engines timing belt breaks it wont take out any valves so you could drive it till it breaks but i would change it.your hot smell might be valve cover gaskets are leaking.this is common on these cars.
