So I tried to install a Pioneer DEH-1200MP into my 96 Avalon. I bought the proper harness and DIN. I decided to try to install the headunit without he help of my roommate(who knows how to do this stuff). I pulled out the old Delco headunit properly, and tried to install the pioneer. After ruining the new harness and poorly soldering wires of the harness and NEW head unit only, I decided to put the DELCO back in, order a new harness, and wait for my room mate to help me out. Well, now the DELCO wont work. The AC still works fine, so do hazards and everything. It's soley the radio/cd player that wont work at all. Any idea what I screwed up? I checked the fuse, replaced it with a spare and still nothing. I'm lost. Thanks for any help that's given.
You may have locked yourself out of the headunit if it has that security feature... check your owners manuel.

make sure you check the fuses under the hood and in the dash. also double check your radio connections.unplugging your radio and later plugging it in wont make it not turn on.

I agree with the advice already given. Doublecheck your connections. Are that snapped together tightly? Are you getting anything on the radio display? If there is a security feature you will get an indication on the screen to input the code.
By the way, I've got the previous version of the same stereo head unit, the 1100. It was a HUGE improvement over the OEM radio. I also added a subwoofer/amp which really filled in the low end bass.
Here is the stereo install thread that "sickwilly" started which is quite useful.
As far as installation goes, it was going fine, until I had ot figure out what to do with the harness. I know next to nothing about wiring and audio systems in general. Trying to get to the amp seems like it'll be my toughest obstacles. Will I need to solder wires together for the amp or will the harness plugs just need to be plugged into it?

The BOSS BASS600 amp/subwoofer just plugs into the jacks on the back of the Pioneer head unit you bought. You need to run power to it and hook up to the blue antenna/activation wire which switches it on every time the radio goes on. It is pretty easy to hook up... The most difficult part was running the power cable through a hole we drilled in the firewall to the battery. We mounted it under the seat and hooked the ground up to a seating bolt.
It made a huge difference in our Avalon but we had the base stereo with no subwoofer on the rear deck. For the $100 dollars it cost, you couldn't buy a decent amp and subwoofer (for some reason the 600 is being sold at a premium at Amazon right now and the bigger units are actually cheaper.) If you have a working subwoofer I wouldn't worry about adding one. The stereo will make a HUGE improvement by itself.

So I took my head unit to Best Buy yesterday and they installed it. I'll add pictures soon. When I first got in the car and listened to it, it sounded fine(my speakers are trash, they're next on my list of upgrades). As I started driving though, I heard a low buzzing noise. I thought a window was cracked so I thought nothing of it. Then I still heard it when I parked. I turned my headunit off completely and the noise went away. Turned it back on, and it's there. It's not like it's super loud, but it's very obvious in between tracks and it becomes annoying after about a ten minute car ride. Is this a bad wiring issue or something else?
Also, my antenna extends whenever the headunit is on. Even if AUX or CD is on. But once I power it off, it goes away. Is this normal?
