Gen1 Where do the majority of AC leaks occur?

Hi People
hope your week thus far is going great.

I had a question to you all who have their ac issues with the system.

when you have either taken it in or did it your self where were the leaks found?

I just replaced my expansion valve and went to have the freon re installed. It would not pull a vacuum. So we pushed the high side and the shop owner told me to go listen inside under dash.

I did and sure enough there is a leak. I had my struggle getting the lines that go into the firewall tight. The low side took forever to get tight. I also lifted the line up to install
new o rings all splits have new o rings.

I think the leak is where the lines I described. I just wanted to put this out for some feed back.

I sure hope it is those lines I really DO NOT
want to have to remove the evaporator again LOL..NOT funny

an electronic "sniffer" will identify the leak when you place a small charge in the system.

They also make a dye for the freon that glows under blacklight.

Most A/C leaks occur at the compressor seals.

But it sounds like you make have a different scenario.

Hey man, sorry to see your still having issues with your AC. When I did my valve and reinstalled everything, i ended up cutting one of the o-rings. If you hear it under your dash, its one of those connections you just dealt with. There are no other lines under the dash. Unless your Core is now leaking. Eather way, you will probably be pulling it all out again, sad to say. Wish you the best of luck.

Pull the fitting off that goes through the firewall. Inspect both sides of aluminum parts and make sure they are not damaged. Install a couple new o'rings. When you put it back together make sure you don't get any firewall insulation on the fitting mating surfaces and tighten her up. Take your time tightening. You will know when it's all the way tight. Aluminum has a bottoming feel. The second the fitting doesn't turn anymore it's almost as tight as it needs to be. Good luck. If that ain't it, you may have to take everything apart and test it by looking and running air through the evaporator up. It should be easy to find. Just take a long time to get to.

Good info in the previous posts so I will just reiterate that normally you will see oil around the leak. Mine was at the intake to the condenser. I could see the oil all around the fitting connecting it. Replaced condenser/dryer and it was perfect.
