cleaning up the wheels?

bought a nice looking wheel today for $60. too bad they had only 1, though they had about 10-12 avalons in their junk yard.

bought a new tire and put it on the ground, taking the ugliest wheel off and using it for a spare. there was a steel wheel and an 11 year old tire in the trunk, until yesterday.

has anyone had any success with cleaning the nasty looking white crap off the wheels? guy at the tire store said they could not be cleaned 'cause that aluminum oxide is under the clear coat ???

ten to twelve Avalons?!

I find maybe one Avalon per every four yards visited!

Yeah, if you have the same problem I do your wheels are pitted and the coating is torn. I suppose if you buffed/blasted them and added a new coat on them they would look new, assuming the wheel is all aluminum, even though a light sandblasting shouldn't hurt.

The last time I browsed a scrapyard must've been a year or two ago, maybe more of these beautiful vehicles are meeting terrible fates as they progress in age.

well this place is foreign only and indianapolis is a place where people try to out-do the jonses. i feel so sorry for it - it tries so hard to be a city but it may never get the job done... anyhow, lot of pplz there that would buy avalon/lexus new. if they didn't i would not have one now - lol

a few of the cars are wrecked but a lot of them have blown engines. i can see how that would happen. mine revvs WAY over the red line - i really have to watch it! if you got drunk or in a rage... boom!

i'm closing in on having the mechanical work done on mine. now i need to get the bodywork started. i knew what i was getting into... lol it's that ugly dark green right now. that will change, just as soon as i can arrange it!

I've very rarely seen Avalons in the junkyard. You'll see maybe a beat 1st Gen once in awhile, but I think they're still too expensive on the used car market to make it to the wrecking yard just yet. In the next 2-3 years, more will start to show up at the yards.
