13 miles to gallon! 95 Avalon

HELP, just bought this car last month, did a full tune up, 95 avalon with 80k orig miles, documented carfax, bought from orig owner, have reciepts going way back years.

goes about 150 miles on 12 gallons. 12x13 is 156, miles.

Cheveron gas always. reg, but its not like can use prem 91 and it will get 20.

drive it easy around town, freeway around 70. never get on it, unless getting on a freeway on ramp.

what the heck is going ON.

bad cylinder? do a compression check? it runs great! at a total loss.

please help, thanks, Kevin

Just couple thoughts:

Air filter changed recently?

Is the Check Engine light on?... if no, is the bulb burnt out?

Yeah I was going to say try cooling it on the freeway if you want to squeeze some more mpgs, but 13 is way low. with 240K miles at 70mph i obtain 25mpg, but at 55 it is 35mpg

Could it be the tires or transmission related? Steers funny? rolls easy?

If it was running rich you could easily spot it in the exhaust, maybe not at idle, but if you had a friend follow you while driving for epic sniffing tests.

Hi;
1.May I ask you how exactly you check your mileage? Fuel gages of this car sometimes behave very erratically.
2. I would also suggest to check if you any seized brake caliper...check for any unusally hot wheel after you have driven for some time.
3. Do you see healthy check engine light during startup?

I drive 1995, 204k km, which gives me about 23mpg.

try to do the seafoam treatment, that should help a bit. 1 can in half a tank of gas, half a can in brake booster and half in the oil.

I know if you fix this yet, but have you checked your fuel pressure regulator for over pressure and tested your MAP sensor?
