working on this car really SUX

took this morning early and dedicated it to changing the tie rods. the nuts are seized, and will not move. great manufacturing quality, there...

so i pop the tie rod end out of the spindle, gently remove the boot and there is a nightmare! no room to get any sort of a wrench anywhere near the thing. so i mosey on down to my local autozone, new tie rod in hand, and ask if they have a loaner tool that works on it.

sure do! but not on a !@#$%^&*()!!! toyota. wrong size. then i visit every possible sounce in this HICK town, looking for the tool it demands, of course not. inbred, hillbilly fools...

so i have to put it all back together. ordered a 30mm crows foot today. maybe one day it will wander in. then, lucky me, i can relive the misery...

i'm like, REALLY starting to hate this damn car

most cars will have the tie rod nuts seize up its not toyotas fault. add some heat and they will break loose. ive been doing alignments on toyotas for 5 years.

your car is what 13, 14 yrs old? 100K+ miles and ur complaining about bolts being stuck? dude cmon lol. i've worked on a few dsms, mustangs etc and stuff sometimes just falls into my hands, sometimes its their body parts that just break off. our cars are built to last, built to take abuse and not need common maintenance. no1 touched my avalon for about 80-100kmiles. no dealers or mechanics, my mom just kept driving and changing oil and brakes. older cars are gonna have bolts that are stuck and most american companies probably won't carry a toyota or metric sized bolt wrench, anything. i had to go to 4 home stores to find 1 bolt to work for my supercharger..

This sounds like one of those jobs best left for a Toyota dealer or good independent shop. Assuming they work on Toyotas regularly, they should have the proper tools and in that case R&Ring the tie rods shouldn't take more than about an hour labor (what's that in your area, maybe $75-100?). If you feel the tie rods are real worn and it's a safety issue, get it done now rather than putting it off to save a few bucks.

As I get older there are some repair jobs I refuse to do anymore, and finding myself squeezed under a car, busting my knuckles and cursing because I don't have some specialized, expensive tool would probably be one of those instances.

Remember your car is FWD with underhood space limitation.

well today, after three (that's THREE !!) new o2 sensors, that goddamn 0420 code popped back up. i smashed the cup holder, burned about half the rubber off the left front tire... did my level best to smash the damn window as i slammed the (!)ing door with all my might...

so, just another $135 for a converter. if that light comes on again i will calmly pull to the side, throw gasoline all over it and laugh my a-** off as it burns. got the gas in the trunk. dead serious. hello, geico? yeah - must have been a fuel line, under the hood. i just barely got out alive !!!!

i can't enjoy the thing anymore. every time i look at it i want to get a pipe, and beat it into little pieces!

Keep posting. We are all interested in your perception of us. Perhaps you can start a group therapy session so we can build understanding and empathy with each other.

Talking funny

dude whats your issue, I was just pointing out that everyone is in a bad mood, I agree some days you are ready to burn a car to the ground. but people yelling about the hick town they live in is not what this forum is for is it? Instead of wanting people to feel sorry for them people could ask questions to see if anyone else has had the same issues?
come on lets get back on topic of your great cars.

yes, 0420 can be a sign of a bad cat. of course, the equipment that detects the bad cat is in question, as well. in my case the cat and pipe look brand new - not even rusty yet. sooooo
