Gen1 A/C issues

hey has anyone had the issue of the A/c not coming on and the light blinking? mine will do it every few days and somedays some days the compressor clutch just wont lock. it will lock and sping for like 1sec and unlock and then the light blinks. When it works its cold as can be. so im starting to think its either low on freon or theres too much freon or one of the preasure switches is going bad. any idea?

Don't rule out the clutch. It may be going bad as well. If you find that everything else is ok, when the A/C is not working, tap the clutch with a hammer(LIGHTLY). I have had one get sticky at random times. This isn't a direct fix, but if it works, it will tell you whats wrong.

thanks my gauges should be here today so that i can check the freon level. but like i said when it is working its cold as heck so I hope its not the clutch or the compressor showing signs of failing b/c i dont see a way of removing the clutch with out removing the compressor from the car which calls for pulling the system down and crap that i cant afford

there's a low pressure cutoff switch on top of the receiver/drier. it has 2 terminals. first, check to see that the thing has 2 terminals, then try the ac with the wire off. it should not work. if so, jumper the switch. your problem should vanish. if so the switch is going bad.

you can leave the jumper on BUT if its a combination switch (having high-pressure and low-pressure cutoffs in it) it will have four wires. if it has four wires, be careful. you can still jumper the low pressure cutoff but you'll need to identify the connections, first.

if you jumper the high-pressure switch the unit will run all the time and freeze the evaporator, solid.
