UK Dashboard warning lights

Hi guys this is my second question

I dont have a manual with my car as these cars were imported direct from Japan but I need to find out what a dashboard warning light means. There are two lights that have come on, the skid or traction light and the TRC Off light.

Can anybody tell me the cause or point me to the right place to look.

Thanks

Richard

Where was your car driven/produced? Oh, dumb me, if only I read the post carefully! Otherwise I do not believe any of the Avalons in the US had traction control, I have a 96 XLS and there are no provisions for such.

Id imagine traction control would use a speed sensor on each wheel, you might want to check for corrosion or similar problems there. Does the car have ABS? Does it work? Perhaps theres a blown fuse for the TCS module.

mine's a 97. it definitely does have traction control, and it certainly does work - which means you have to push a button to tell "big brother" not to watch your acceleration, for signs of fun!

there are no more sensors on the wheels (been in there - big time). the system uses the same sensors as the ABS. these are the things i don't like... but my insurance company does! it gave me an automatic discount for the ABS.

The majority of cars here in the Cayman Islands are im ported from Japan as they have to replace cars when they get to a set milage level (I think it may be 85k)

This may explain why my 96 Avalon is different from some of yours.

Bah, speed sensor, abs, its all the same thing

Where is the traction button located? I can only think by the power mirror controls. hmm.

moddyshield: Does the ABS on the car work?

according to what I've read, the traction control button is supposed to sit between the power mirror controls and the steering column, if you notice the back of that piece of plastic has a scored part in it.

The traction button sits by the gear selector in the center of the car. I do know that works. When the two warning lights are off and I press the traction button the TRC Off warning light comes on but not the other warning light. When both lights are on pressing the traction button does not do anything.

I am figuring that the two lights coming on together is a warning of something else, maybe low engine coolant
