hey guys my mom just handed down her '99 avalon xls with 122Kmiles to me and I have a lot of work to do it, just wondering what model bulbs go in the interior and trunk and the license plates, so far I've only done the fog lights to white. correct if i am wrong but for hids its the 9006 h4? thanks!

Interior/dome is DE3175 . Trunk is DE3021. License plate lights are 168. High beams are 9005, low beams are 9006. More bulb types for this car can be found at: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...lacementGuide/

Before you get HID's, please read through this thread. They may look cool, but they aren't that useful unless you use proper HID housings, and the right temperature lamp(lower the better pretty much).

If you want LEDs for your interior, may I suggest www.v-leds.com

I just got white LEDs from them this week for my courtesy doors and dome light. They are incredibly bright!

yup that's where I'm lookin already, planning to do the whole Interior white and trunk and the license plates. led reverse lights, can't find turn signal LEDs and seeing if i can change the corner housings to the white ones since I have the amber side markers on them

The turn signals are 7440's very common bulb and super easy to find LED versions of.

The trunk light in my Saturn burnt out once and I wanted to replace it with an LED bulb. I couldnt find one so I went to advance auto and bought two LED pod lights. They have 8 or so LEDs in them and have adhesive backing. I cut the wire to my trunk light and spliced in the two pods that placed on each side of the trunk. They were 10 times brighter than my old bulb and only cost me a total of 15 bucks. One of those pods will definitely cover all your trunk lighting needs and will probably cost the same as an LED bulb.

I found them. They're Pilot Glo-Pods. You can get a two pack from autozone for 15 bucks. It is well worth it, trust me. You can also get a Pilot LED license plate bar. They put off as much light and cost 15 bucks.

Turn signals listed as 7440? perhaps its a cross-reference, but I've always used 1156 bulbs in the front and back turn signals with no problems.

Also, if you go LED turn signals and have the factory blinker in the car, they will go nuts, as in flash rapidly as if a bulb was burnt out. (Even two LED 1156s wont total the power use of one filament 1156)
You can get a heavy duty flasher, electronic. And be very adamant about getting the right flasher at auto zone or wherever you go. the Advance Auto down the street sold me the incorrect flasher (3 pin, but I beilve it was an older, 3 pin external load type flasher),anyway it nicely burned up a wire in a harness way behind the dash "well sir, we cant do anything about that.." I fixed the turn signals, but to this day I still don't hazard function.

But those pods seem like a cool idea.

I used 12" computer cathodes for the longest time in my trunk. Actually, I still do. and I'll add that I'm quite amazed that they still function after 2 years. Just dont smash 'em, and everything is cool

Weird. 7440's are wedges and 1156's are twists. You shouldn't be able to use 1156's in 7440 sockets. I have checked several automotive places and they all list 7440 as the turn signal lamp bulb.

Then again I am checking for 1998, they might have changed it for the mid-cycle facelift.

I had an 18 inch cathode in my trunk before I put in the LED pods. The main reason why I switched was because I put a bike in my trunk and put a crack in the casing around the cathode. I didn't damage it but if I hit it again I would have. It was nice though, really bright.

As for the pods; they're bright, durable, inexpensive and easy to install. They are really bright. I had blue ones in my trunk and you could see them from a block away. If you have them pointing down they radiate though out your trunk really well and don't blind you.

I found out that the trunk light is a festoon. Probably 10x31mm. Nokya makes them.

Is there anywhere I can find a list of what lights go where and how many of them are required? I am planning on switching all of my interior/exterior (everything but the headlights) to LEDs.
