Noisy valves on 95 Avi

Guys,

I'm experiencing a lot of noise from right side of engine. I have 207K on the clock, and the water pump/timing belt replaced at 164K. Went to a muffler shop - not exhaust. The mechanic told me it may be time to blow taps. Can I drive this, or should take out of service. BTW, I noticed the front cam is making noise - used long socket extension.

Any comments grateful,

chilley

Sonic,

Thanks for getting back to me. It sounds like "Blaaaah", especially at start up. However, I notice the noise diminishes when I reach 40 mph. Now, standing still, at 2500 rpm there's no noise. My mechanic told me the harmonic balancer has a wobble. Wants $650 to fix (replace water pump/timing belt, plus acc belts).

Just wait and see, and regards,

chilley

Yup sounds like the Balancer. i know on GM cars they are notrious for going out. $650 for all of that is not that bad if the water pump has not been donce make sure that he replaces the crank seal because the wobble will ruin it. others on here will be able to confirm or debunk what i said lol but in my opioion thats what it sounds likes.

Your wobble in the balancer is not going to cause a noise in one cyl head or camshaft, Crankshaft noise yes.
Is this a ticking, Knocking, Scraping noise or what?

It sounds like a roar, especially when cold as I pull away from the curb. I'm using Valvoline HM 10W-30, with a Fram HM oil filter. Get this: I poured in some Seafoam, and it quieted down some what. Did not last long. I don't know if changing to 10-40 will help. I've heard Castrol GTX has better detergents, according to the Auto-RX site. Oil changes have been done every 3K, without fail. Puzzlement.

Thanks for the support,

chilley

PS: Does Marvel Mystery Oil do any good?

LOL, seafoam ?? what in the hell are you doing ? What made you think adding seafoam in anyway would help. Take it to a reputable shop ( not a muffler shop or any quick lube) before you make it unrepairable.

I guess that's what happens when a person reads forums looking for advice. I rest my case.

CWH, im not bashing you personally or anything but here lately i have been disgusted at the way some people here treat others. I hope the mods take a look at this and let me know IF i am in the wrong or not. in ur message is RIGHT he shouldnt be stabing in the dark for a solution, And if he doesnt know whats wrg he should take it to a shop but laughing at him making him feel like crap for trying something isnt going to help either.

Now before i set off another Thread again! opinions are like pie holes, everyone has one. and your intitiled to have one but just have one in a tasteful way. AND again its not directed at you or anyone personally.

Maybe everyone needs to more
