98 Avalon XL Recirc Button Doesn't Work

I've noticed this problem lately that the inside/outside air recirc button doesn't function properly. It is stuck on the outside mode always letting in outside air, and won't switch over to the inside mode. When I press the inside mode I can hear the motor working so I'm unsure of what the remedy may be. Initially I thought the motor died.

Has anyone experienced this problem, or know of what I should be looking for after I take the dash off?

Don't rush to pull the dash. Pull the glove box and see if that will let you watch what's happening to the inside/outside air door when you push the button. Since you're hearing a reaction, it sounds like a mechanical problem in the door motor, linkage, or door/pivot.

I'd almost be willing to trade parts. I dislike recirculating air so much, just makes the air musty every time I've used it...
