Water In Door Fix

So I had the dreaded waterlogged door issue with my 98. We had a lot of rain lately. Thanks to several old posts I removed the two drain plugs and drained about a gallon of water from the door.

The plastic trim piece appeared to be held on with rivets so I popped them off, cleaned out the drain holes, blew them out with compressed air and sprayed a generous amount of white lithium grease in there to prevent rust (gotta love the rust belt). I was able to re-attach the plastic trim using some 1/8" pop rivets and an aluminum backing washer. The short grip rivets worked fine.

Just an FYI if anyone else has a similar problem and need an easy fix. I think the rivets hold better than screws and won't encourage any further rusting.

yeah this happens to me all the time when it rains on my 99. I usually just stick a bbq skewer or screwdriver into the hole where those plastic drainage plugs are and try to clear the holes so the water drains. It probably helps that my driveway is on a hill. nothings worse than that sloshing sound every time you come to a stop.

you might want to keep an eye on the aluminum rivets. galvanic action may cause rust in the steel around them.

I has the same issue, I just took a rubber tiped air blower and ran it along the black plastic trim plate at the bottom and it cleared all the holes like magic... But you will need the blow gun and air compressor for this.
