Gen1 ATF in oil crankcase?

My regular mechanic told me that a great way to clean up th engine is to put a half litre (or half quart) of ATF in the crankcase and run the car for 500 kilometres (350 miles).

Has anyone ever done this?? Would you ever do it??

Thoughts....opinions...rants...appreciated.

Yes I have heard of this. I have not actually tried it. Seems like kerosene, liquid wrench, sea foam all do about the same thing too. I have also heard of putting ATF in the gas tank to clean the injectors but haven't actually had the guts to try it.

just use something like penzoil platnum which is a high cleaning syhthetic oil. That will keep here clean.

Works good as my used sienna had been run with dino oil and when I first used penzoil platnum the oil turned black almost immediately. Next oil change turned dark after a longer interval. After that it stays no darker than amber after 5000 miles.

I picked up a jug of Penzoil 5w30 dino oil today at Walmart. Was on sale for $13.50. It claims to remove 40% of sludge but that's probably bullshit.
I'm the 3rd owner of my Avalon and it's only got 168,000 KM. Change the oil every 5,000 kms, putting in Lucas oil every 2nd oil change.

I don't know if it's sludged up or not and don't have the tools to check...just thought the ATF flush trick might work.

I would never go back to that mechanic personally. ATF should never be put into the engine!

BTW, why are you using Lucas? There is no reason to use the stuff, save your money or use the cash to buy a full synthetic.

Everyone who has ever worked on my car swears by the stuff. They also told me that there's no point to go full synthetic after so many years on regular dino oil..
