Blacked Out Emblems

I found this DIY on CL, and thought it would be a cool idea to try on my car.

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-s...-required.html

Material I used:
$6 can of Plasti Dip from Home Depot
Bottle of 70% rubbing alcohol
Q-tips
Paper Towels
Masking Tape
Newspaper
Scalpel
Tweezers
Patience & Precision

Before Pics:

During:
I started off with the Sombrero one day before work just to see how it would turn out. If I f'ed up, I would only have to fix a small problem.

I prepped the area some rubbing alcohol, and dried it off COMPLETELY before spraying. I then sprayed on a single light coat and waited 20 mins before doing the next coat, and another 20 mins before doing the next.

Ignore the shitty masking job

^^ Looks like liquid mercury or something

I waited another week to do the rest of the emblems because I didn't much time because of school and work etc.

Here's the rest:

Finished product: Sorry for the dirty car. She will be getting detailed this weekend if it doesn't rain.

You have no idea what a PITA it was to peel off the Plasti Dip from the center of the capital "A" in TOYOTA. A scalpel or Xacto knife is a MUST.

So what do you guys think? I chose plasti dip because it's REVERSIBLE. So if I decide I don't like it, it just peels right off.

I thought I'd try something a little different. It's a nice cheap mod and makes it stand out just a little bit.

Gen1

Looks great. I am still deciding whether or not to do this because of the chrome trim around the license plate location and across the bumper and the rest of the molding.

You should look at redding out you turn signals. It really kept my avalon looking more modern.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Blkavalon - I can't believe I forgot about that plate frame. What's funny is that it's been there for so long, that dealership is no longer called Sutherlin, and is in a different location now

I might look for a TRD one if I ever get any TRD parts

pmesfun - It looks good, but I'm not sure if it fits my style. I've always been a fan of orange turn signals. Something that sets Toyotas apart from American cars.

I have been thinking about trying White Plasti-Dip, think it will match the paint?
If it does I will go ahead and do the chrome trim around the grille and repaint the black part with Black Plasti-Dip. What do you think?

I think that might look even better than black!
It won't be an exact match obviously, and plasti dip has no gloss. It's just flat. I'd say that would looks pretty sweet.

Yeah that's true. Mabye a few coats of Plasti-Dip Clear will solve that problem. If I can find a store that sells it.

Anyways I will post results if I do it.
