Question Help

I have a 1998 TOYOTA AVALON XLS with 106498 miles in it. Purchased it with 45000 and no clue if timing belt have been changed. I had it for a year. I am having the following symptoms

1 IDLE HUNTING
2 3 sec. Delayed acceleration when pressing gas pedal
3 Engine light is on and TRAC OFF light on
4 Unusual noise on the engine
5 A lot of vibration when driving and stopped

What can cause all this symptoms?

the traction light comes on when the wheels spin while you have a cel. it will go off when the cel is fixed.
a misfire will make the car shake and throw a cel. it could be as simple as spark plug, but it could be a lot of other things, too. if it is drivable, take it to a parts store that will read the codes for free, or invest in a scanner.
if the timing belt broke, the car wont run. the belt can jump a tooth though, i think. what kind of noise did it make, and from where in the engine?

Now that you mention a clanking in the side of your engine, I had a similar noise, and I fixed it. I just can't remember for the life of me what it was! It sounded like something was tapping on the timing belt cover.

However I knew it was gone after I replaced the upper engine mount, and had a reputable shop do the timing belt and water pump.

A bad mount will cause vibration.

At 45K miles the timing belt would have not of been replaced yet, so if you haven't done so and it has 106K it would be a good idea to replace it if you plan on keeping that car.

I've had bad fuel injectors, but at 220K miles. Rough idling, engine shaked at idle, shaked reved, but not as much. Delayed acceleration, CEL. Dismissing this because your car has 105K while mine has 250K may seem likely, but then again they're roughly the same age.

IAC, Trottle body, air filter wouldn't hurt to check out either. Infact if you havent, I suggest changing the plugs(kind of a bitch), fuel filter(a bitch), timing belt and water pump.
