Power Antenna Repair

Got 96 and antenna doesn't move at all. Any suggestions on troubleshooting? Does that mean bad motor or new antenna all together? As I'm typing this it hit me that may be a fuse so I'm going to check fuses. But a little weird that I don't hear motor or anything when turning on radio.

Saw this ebay listing

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-P...mZ300505872774

and have heard about the s2000 and shark attack replacement ones so any thoughts there would be appreciated

1st on the list is to check for power. you can try a little wd-40 on the mast in the retracted position, it may be sticky. otherwise, you are in the position of having little to lose. pull it apart and see what there is to see. it likely has a limit switch that may be corroded.

Another common thing to go wrong on these power antennas is that the mast breaks. So while the power is running and the gears turning, it's not actually connected to the antenna. The mast is the plastic toothed "thingy" that is inside the antenna and is fed through the gears to raise and lower it. It's kinda like a motorcycle chain. If the chain breaks you can rev the engine all you want, but it wont turn the tires.
I have used one of those replacement masts off ebay before and it worked fine. Lasted about three or four years i'd say before it broke again. This was on a 4runner though.

If Jack Deth's advice doesnt fix it then I"d try removing the antenna and making sure it is intact.

First rule...make sure it's plugged in

Plugged in and the motor clicks so I think the mast thread is broken but after reading the threads it seems like it may be easier to just replace whole antenna...found this on amazon for 30 bucks anybody have any experience with this one as far as fit and reliability?

it's extremely simple to replace the mast - takes about 5 minutes and the instructions come with the part.
