Question 96 Avalon No Heat.... Bad Thermostat? blend door? info inside

Well after replacing the heater core. There is still no heat. I bypass the heater control valve too. By the dash gauge on the car it warms up fine(about halfway on gauge). I thought if the thermostat was bad it would be either stuck open or closed. Which would cause overheating or car wouldnt heat up at all. I know there is coolant getting to the heater core because it was leaking at first where the copper pipes came together at the heater core.

Anybody know of a site or link for a factory service manual for this car? Thet Haynes one sucks thanks CJ

Remember Avys are the same as camrys..Look around the camry sections and you will run into Mister Perkins, click on his 3rd gen owners icon and look around at his info. don't forget to click your thanks button for him.

Even if the thermostat is stuck open (which is how they are designed to fail) the car would still heat up, just not as fast. Judging by your location "USA" I don't know your climate, but even if you were in Chicago like me 20 minutes of idling with a full open thermostat would still heat up the car.

The temperature sensor for the coolant is mounted on the engine. If you do live in a cold climate, the circulating coolant is enough inside of the engine to keep it at an optimal temperature, even if your thermostat failed closed.

If you're low on coolant, the heat is the first thing to go. you could also have a air bubble trapped in your cooling system. You can get rid of an air bubble by leaving the cap on the radiator to the first "click" and run the car from anywhere 5 minutes to 5 hours, depending on the situation.

Water pump could be suspect, too.
