1995 Avalon Clock/Thermometer assembly

My thermometer, which is located in the clock assembly in the dash is malfunctioning. Most of the time it only shows 2 little hash marks where the temperature is supposed to read, but occasionally the temperature shows up in degrees celsius. The clock always works. Could someone please explain why this is happening and perhaps a way to fix or place to get a replacement part? Thanks

check the connection to the temperature sensor on the passenger side of the car under the front bumper and check the connection and connector. That connector can get filled with dirt and road salt.
