1995 Avalon, couple questions

Hi everyone, I'm new to these forums.

I just purchased a 1995 Avalon XLS with 94k miles on it, and just had some questions.

1) Is it possible to raise this car at all? I have to slow down to a crawl to go over speed bumps, or the car will bottom out.

2) Is there any way to replace the cup holder? The one in it has a broken side. Is there anywhere to order a replacement for it?

Thanks,
Ryan

Your struts/springs are probably worn out. Replacing those should bring you Avalon to the original ride height.
The cup holder can be found at junkyards. I think you are talking about the black half circle that moves in when the cup holder is in the closed position? Probably a cheap replacement from your local dealer.

I agree with pmsfun. The springs control the ride height, struts dampen the ride. I would replace both your struts and springs. Moog makes some quality replacement springs which can be had for around $75 a pair.

Yep probably no need to raise the car just new struts should do the trick. Also do you have the column shift and bench seats? They take a different cup holder but it's the same idea.

That is what I'm doing next week. Someone mentioned springs may be needed, but I'm just doing struts.

struts only dampen the ride like a shock absorber. If the ride height is low, the springs have settled and need to be replaced.

Here is pics of front and rear ride height on mine.

The rear seems okay, but the problem is the struts are blown, sags when people are in the back.
