How many idiots does it take to change a light bulb???
Long story short, I ****ed up something big time!
I was changing my long burned out trunk lamp and bought the 3021 light bulb it said at the Autoparts store. Turns out the bulbs were different and it didn't work, but afterwards my dome light, clock, map lights all lost power and don't work. The radio still works and I checked my fuses. Could I have really short circuited something changing a little trunk light??? I hope not.

Hey Red Bluff, nothing to say about your post, but on a side note. Environmentalists have ruined my Memorial Day Weekends forever. I used to go up there for the IHBA boat drag races. Nothing better than watching Top Fuel Hydro's on the liquid quarter mile complete with rooster tails 1/8 mile long!
Screw the Sierra Club. Screw all environmentalists everywhere!

If there's anything Dead Bluff is known for, it's the rodeo, the boat drags, and Tom Hanks visiting his mother. I haven't paid attention to the boat drags in a while, are they not doing them anymore???

I suspect its the 10A "gauge" fuse in the box under the steering wheel.
I'll check it, but my gauge lights still work. What's weird is that I've blown the radio fuse before and both it and the clock won't work, yet my radio still does work and lights up, but not the clock.

Well, once upon a time I put a higher wattage reverse light straight into the old socket. Didnt work, then I noticed the interior lights, clock, and dome lights didn't work anymore. Strange. I checked all the fuses, tail, stop, all ok. Then I found the 10A gauge fuse was blown, replaced it and everything came back to life.
Could also be the lamp failure module in the trunk, or even the factory integration relay.. the later more so because you lost other functions.

Not yet, the car is at my parents house and I'm about 45 minutes away at my apartment for the week while I attend school, but I will check it again this weekend. Where is the Dome fuse? I checked under the dash board where the other fuses are on the driver's side, but I swear I couldn't see it listed on the diagram on the back of the kick panel. I know that's where it's located on my Cressy, but I couldn't see it for the Avalon. Am I losing it?

+1 on the fuse box under the hood. Had the same thing happen to me last fall and posted my results on this forum. Replaced the bulb in the trunk, and the fuse under the hood and everything was fine again. You can only get the bulb from the dealer.
Thanks for the help. I'm going up to my parent's house tomorrow so I'll check/replace the fuse and get an OEM bulb. Will update.
Question, though...why is something so mundane as a trunk bulb so difficult to purchase? And sylvania or whatever needs to update their charts.

It's a really goofy bulb; looks like an old fuse; the glass tubular kind with metal end caps. I replaced it in my Camry a few weeks ago, and I'd never seen one like it before. Neither had anyone at the auto parts stores. One of them wouldn't listen to me and kept trying to take me to the fuse aisle to look for it . Wound up getting it at the dealer. He took one look at it and scurried off to grab one out of a big ol' drawer full of bulbs. Said he hadn't sold one of those for a few years, so even Toyota must not use 'em much anywhere else. Mine had been burnt out so long I didn't even know there was a light in the trunk!

Changed the Dome fuse and put in the proper OEM bulb, everything is working now. Thanks for the help everyone.
