Question I am looking for a clip for my armrest, but not having any luck and rims.

Vehicle: '99 Toyota Avalon.
Part: Panel, FR Door Armrest
Part # 74232-AC030-E1 (need clip for this)

Question 1: My driver's side armrest (where the window switches are) is missing a clip that holds it in place.

I took it to the dealer and they ordered the part for me. The part they ordered was a new panel, not the clip that we needed.

I was not sure what we actually needed to fix it until I put the new part in and could not get it to work.

I am trying to find the clip that holds it in place and not having any luck. I did find the oart on EBay, but you have to buy the entire panel for $38. I am hoping that I can get the clip for cheaper.

I have found several clips online, but am not sure which one I need. I have searched and searched and cannot find the part I am looking for.

2. We have been told that all 4 rims on the car are bent and need to be replaced. They make the car shake when the car gets to about 45 or so.
Is the cheapest place to get these from a junk yard?
I have never bought rims before and the dealer wanted around $300 for each one.

Thanks for any help and assistance.

Are you talking about the clip on the lower portion of the window switch panel? Mine broke off too, but I used an electrical ring connector. Fasten it with one of the screws on the switch panel, and face the crimp end like a tab. I'll take a picture the next time I'm in my car. Its not perfect, but it holds it in place.

You could get rims for $55-100 a peice at discount tire or wherever sells aftermarket rims.

Shifted belts in the tire, and bad wheel bearings can also make the car shake. But for all four rims to be bent, thats interesting.

Thanks for the reply.

The picture would be great.

When we bought the car, we were told that 1 rim was bent. We took it to the dealership and they said all 4 were bent. I found that odd as well, as I have never had a bent rim. Having all 4 bent seemed kind of strange.

Thanks for that link. It looks like I can get the rims at a decent price.

Its not perfect, but its the best I could come up with at the time. Of course if you used a small piece of bent aluminum and drilled a hole in it, that would hold better. Maybe one of these days... (not likely, short attention spawn ftw!)

Thanks for the pictures.

The clip I am missing is on the other end, but I think your solution will work for that as well. I went and bought some of those today.

Thanks,

I bought a replacement rim from Belle Tire (popular here in MI) for $175. It looked exactly the same as the other stock wheels. I would avoid a junk yard unless you can get a guarantee the wheels will be straight and true. I have never been that lucky before and you might avoid a bunch of hassle by just buying new. If money is tight, buy 2 rims and replace the two worst. Put the new ones in the front, you won't feel the bent rims in the back as much. Then when you have the opportunity, you can replace the two bent rims in the rear at your next tire rotation.

You might want to check with Gary the parts man here on this forum who might be able to get you your specific clip and a much better price on replacement OEM rims. He offers a 30% off discount to TN members.
