oil pan and power steering hose.

My mechanic says it's not worth changing the oil pan gasket and power steering hose on my '99. but I have had a slow seeping leak in both for a while. He says the cost of the power steering hose is not worth the repair at all right now, is this true? he tells me just to change my oil at regular intervals, and keep refilling the power steering fluid. How hard is it to replace the hardware on your own??

The pressure hose going to the pump is $81 for Gates on RockAuto. Which one is leaking?
The exhaust has to come off in order to remove the pan, and Toyota FIPG(sealant) is needed.

The repair is only worth it if you feel it is. If you don't mind filling the resevior every now and then, leave it be. When you start to notice you have to add more and more and a more frequent interval, then you know it's something that is becomming neccessary and pay it more attention.

The oil pan might be a little different since it's the blood of the engine we're talking about. Keep an eye on it because you don't want it to cause you to run low on oil. If you're a quart low between changes then I'd get it done for peace of mind because it's only going to get worse if you ignore it and could cause issues.

Ask your mechanic to keep an eye on both items when you bring in your car for service and hopefully when the time has come to need those parts repalced, he/she will let you know.
