It's more likely than you think!

On a more related note, I'm not too sure, but you might be able to put a LSD onto the avalon(they make tons of LSDs for the e153/e53).

i don't know anything about transaxles. but it would seem that the 1mz would rip a 4-cyl unit apart?

i would stop before removing the transaxle and disassembling it. but if i could install this with the transaxle in the car?

You might be able to cram in a LSD from the side of the differential, but it would be a hassle.

The e153 was used on the 93-ish mr2 turbo, which came stock with a LSD, it has been well known as being the best manual trans for most toyota engines(excluding the gr engines). I have heard from MANY about it's ability to hold a LOT of horsepower(400+).

So, is the LSD worth the $1000 or so it would cost? Probably not for the avy(unless you are building a turbo sleeper or something).

Would it fit in the auto trans currently in it? Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.

Do you really want to remove the luxury idea of the auto transmission from the Avalon? I surely don't, it's a great daily driver, but it will never be able to fight with the big dogs due to it's weight/size.

Wasn't there are TRD LSD available as well ?

I feel your pain, turn the TCS off and this tank can't put the power to the ground very well. It relies on traction control to make up for lack of 'posi'

I don't have illusions of making a dragster of the Avalon. If I want a dragster I'll get a 60s Dodge. Been there, done that, and re-runs are sooo booring.

This car - nobody knows what it is - lol. When people get in it they say WOW! What IS this? A Toyota, I reply

I seldom break traction. When I do the engine shuts off and the stupid warning light blinks. I wish there was a permanent way to turn that traction control off. It will get me killed one day. If I slip just a little as I leave a stop (like when entering traffic) the car dies out. Haven't been hit yet but one simply must wonder about the Japanese idea of "safety."

I was just thinking if posi was an option, and if it was easy to install, I might find it in a junk yard somewhere.

Oh well - thanks for the replies

My Avalon doesn't even have traction control

I'm glad it doesn't.

I have a 95.. traction control wasn't even an option in the first year, so I have no clue how the Avalon's works.

If you want to have traction control turn off every time you get in the car, take a look at these nifty contraptions:
