Remote Keyless Entry/Starter sets off alarm

I recently installed a remote starter with keyless entry into my '99 Avalon and it works most of the time without a problem. However, very occasionally, when I hit the button to unlock the car, the car alarm goes off.

I'm not sure how to stop this from happening. Anyone have any ideas what I should do or check?

Thanks for the help!

Does your car have a factory alarm that is conflicting with the new keyless/remote start?

That it where I would start. The Toyota VIP that was offered up here is a finicky system that doesn't like to be messed with. I'm not sure what would have been offered for keyless by SET though. The only one I remember was the "securi-key." I hated that one.....

Did you connect a factory alarm disarm wire and diode isolate it?

If installing an aftermarket alarm in a car with the VIP system, I'd definitely remove the VIP alarm system. It easily comes out with only 7 or 8 plugs and a few clipped wires, and would solve a lot of hassle.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure he's dealing with just the factory Avalon alarm system(non vip)

It is a factory alarm. No, I didn't do anything about a factory disarm or diode isolate. I'll check into that.

I'm just surprised that my keyless entry almost always works fine - maybe about 90-95%. Just that other 5-10% of the time that stupid alarm goes off. I don't understand why it wouldn't go off every time.

But, at least now I have a wire color and location to look for and a goal to help possibly fix my problem.

Thanks!

What I might look at doing is this, tell me what you think and if you think it might work. Also, if you know which wire it might be. Is it the blue/white wire mentioned above?

The alarm goes off when I turn the key in the driver's side lock. I was told by Bulldog Security (the makers of my keyless entry/remote start system) that if I could figure out what wire that activates to shut the alarm off when I turn the key in the lock and splice into that wire and connect it to the FASD connection in the Bulldog box.

Then, whenever I hit the unlock button on the remote, it sounds like the system would disable the alarm each time I hit the unlock button like I was turning the key in the lock.

Thanks.

you could try it, I had my avalon's remote start installed at ABT(wanted it to have a lifetime warranty). But I have installed 2 other remote start/alarms since then. I only really deal with directed alarms since they are about 80% of what's out there.

BUT, diode isolating is the best way to disarm a factory alarm since it will prevent interference.
The aftermarket alarm going off when you open the car with a key happens with almost every alarm. I view it as a security feature. Even when my remote batteries only last a month or so, I have never had to open my door with a key.
