I thought each coil pack drove 2 cylinders. Any chance it is a bad coil pack?

X2 on the coil pack problem. Sounds like one is starting to go.

Which two cylinders are misfiring? Coil #1 fires Cyl 2 & 5, coil #2 fires cyl 4 & 1 and coil #3 fires cyl 6 &3. You do have the 3.0L V6, right?

I have 3 extra coils if you need them. I replaced them with new Toyota coils thinking they were causing my no-start problem but it was the crank gear/sprocket.

What happened to your crank gear/sprocket? What was involved in getting it fixed? Thanks.

Broken tooth, the crank sensor was losing it signal so it was starting at TDC over and over again. That was my teacher explaination. IIRC.

I made this thread in the camry forum, after numerous tests, replacing all coils, swapping plugs, igniter etc. Its all in that thread.

After doing all that, I gave up and had it towed to my Auto Tech class at school. My instructors tried everything, but nothing worked. So he had to call his former student who works at Toyota to come and check it. He had a genius way of checking the crank gear. He took out the crank sensor and with a flash light, looked in the hole turned while he turned the crank and that is how he found the missing tooth. After replacing it, the car started up like nothing ever happened. Of course all the fuel had to burn off for a while.
I got new NGK plugs as well b/c they were fouled out from all the starting.

That is bizarre. Do you have any idea what broke the tooth?

My friend and I were trying to get it off when we were replacing the oil seals. Lesson learned: Don't put a pry bar on the gear, its made out of weak metal. My teacher said the tooth probably got weakened and broke off after the couple weeks passed.
