Brakes

I was looking at pics of front and rear brakes and have questions.
Front /rear pads have shims installed into the pads. Do i need to install
extra shims. Most suppliers sell a shim kit.

On rear pads i notice 2 metal wire springs between the pads upper and lower. Do i need to install these?

98 Avalon

No you don't need extra shims.

I would install those springs onto the new pads.

There are actually spring guide shims installed on all four calipers. The rear calipers should have four per caliper, and the front should have 2 per caliper. Just got done replacing 4 calipers.

I went with reman with the new mounting brackets and hardware and couldn't be more pleased. I have a 1998. I got the fronts locally, and went with Raybestos from Rock Auto for the rear. I also upgraded all 4 brake hoses as they were the originals and 14 years old.

Awesome, I am going to do the same as well since mine don't bite at all. Also ABS comes on when its not supposed to, stopping power is the same whether I'm breaking normally or making a quick stop, etc.

So I'm not replacing the rear calipers or hoses. I am getting reman front Centric twin piston calipers(give more bite) and mounting brackets from the 95-97 avalon. As well as Centric rotors and Akebono Pro-Act/Toyota pads on all corners.

cool, let me know how you like the centric rotors and akebono pads. I too am looking for something to give me a good bite, but budget friendly. I almost pulled the trigger on a set of Bendix either CT3 or the semi-metallic's.
