95 avalon engine trouble

Have a 95 Avalon with 154xxx on it. When I put the pedal to the floor (like passing someone on the highway) or even try to accelerate somewhat fast the car will end up stalling.

When I try to get it started back up it usually usually takes about five minutes before I get it started again. The engine turns over fine but when I finally get it going the car is at a rough idle for about 30 sec to a couple minutes.

This has happened three times in the past 3 weeks looking to get it fixed before it becomes a real problem. (there is also a small crack in the exhaust extension where it connects to the catalytic converter. But I don't believe these two are related)

Anyone have any idea what might be causing these problems?

Check engine light on? It sounds like something EGR related or ACIS related may be clogged. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body?

No check lights are on at all. You think the throttle would make it stall and then not start up again for a good 5 min?

Its possible. Now that I've re-read you post I'm pretty sure the Idle Air Control Valve is clogged since it idles rough.

Are you capable of cleaning the Throttle Body and IACV?

IACV Cleaning
5sfe IAC Removal (lots of pictures)

The IACV is mounted to the bottom of the throttle body. You can also take off the motor part and turn the magnetic thing that controls the opening of the valves for better cleaning like Mr Perkins did. Be careful not to strip the screws.

Throttle body is definitely something I can handle I've seen it done on my brothers car. The IAC is something new to me and I'll have to look into that.

Again it only idles rough after stalling, but that the RPM is hovering around 1400-1500 do seem high at start up.

I'll clean out the throttle tomorrow, and let you know how it goes. Thank You so much. I hope this works as I thought it may have been a fuel inject or pump problem. Save me some $$$$$$$$$$
