Canada Replaced some exhaust piping, now check engine light!

I had all the piping after the cat replaced on my 1996 Avalon on the weekend, now I have a check engine light with the code "p0136" I cleared the code and found out it has to do with my rear o2 sensor.

When my mechanic changed my middle resonator pipe, we had to take the o2 sensor off of the old pipe and re-install it into the new pipe...could the new pipe cause the o2 sensor to fail? If so, what are the ramifications of a failed rear o2 sensor?

Thanks,
Karl

i've been there... still am, perhaps

these cars have some sort of a problem, concerning that rear o2 sensor. i have replaced mine with A SIMULATOR because i think the car requires a cat with platinum in it and the ones you can buy now have palladium in them.

you probably lessened the back pressure when doing the cat-back. that's enough - the thing is unbelievably sensitive! i would buy a SIMULATOR and install it.

Looks like fun to install....I can just clear the CEL whenever it pops up...I know my car is running fine and this sensor is just being a bitch....I may just leave it alone for a bit to see what happens...thanks for the link though...when they start accepting orders again I might buy one...a new aftermarket o2 sensor runs at $80 and up.

it's not that bad to install. seat lifts right out - 4 bolts.

didn't know they were not selling. these things can be bought on ebay as well.

search for o2 simulator
