Transmission Oil (change)?

Hey there everyone, Just a Quick question about my '98 Avalon XLS here.

I'm at about 125k miles. I believe my dad had the Transmission oil replaced at 60k but not exactly sure on that figure.

Should I be looking at doing this again right about now? I'm not experiencing any transmission issues, but don't want to in the future either.

Any further info, personal experience, suggestions, oil types, etc would be much appreciated

I would certainly change the transmission fluid and filter, I mean honestly you could you be fine for another 100k, but then again; why risk it. Just regular ATF is all you need for the fluid. Just get your mechanic to change the fluid and filter and don't let him talk you into power flushing it and you'll be good to go.

changing the fluid and filter only gets a small amount of fluid changed. a flush gets most of the fluid including the torque converter. your avalon probably has a seperate front diff that should be drained and filled. like one in a truck.

i'm not sure about 98s and separate differential cavities. i put some teflon treatment in mine and the rest atf. it hummmms, now

drain/fill gets only about 2 quarts (of 11, i think?) 1 way is to pull the pan, install the new filter then drain and fill every time you change your oil. eventually...

other way id to have pep boys power flush it and HOPE they do some damage. free new tranny time!

98 may not be a separate diff. i have done literally hundreds of flushes on toyotas the only problem i have ever had is with a guy with a chevy truck. he lost reverse after the flush. and yes he got a free tranny from us. now if your trans is having an issue i would not recommend a flush unless you can get a free trans out of the deal
