New battery issues

I searched the forums with no success.

Basically, I connected a new battery, the alarm then went off, and I can't figure out how to stop the alarm permanantly.

When I stick the key into ignition to "ON", it stops, but the lights still blink. However, it will not let me start the car. I have pressed all 3 buttons on the remote. (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/attach...-securikey.jpg). The car still won't shutup.

The batteries in the key are good. I was able to just press buttons on the remote in the past and the alarm stopped pretty much instantly, but it is no working this time!!

Anyone have suggestions?

Most cars require sticking key in door and turning or stepping on brake petal either before or after starting car.

Thanks for the suggestion. I turned the key in the ignition with no success, but never thought about trying it in the door. Ill try it later when I come home.

That solution did not fix my problem. So today, I replaced the battery, no corrosion on the wires anymore. The car still will not start. When I turn on the lights or something, the lights dim down and goes semi-crazy. The car still will not start. There is no clicking sound when I turn the ignition, so I am assuming it may be the solenoid. Or the starter or alternator... who knows

Shouldn't be the alternator since you just replaced the battery. The battery hasn't discharged yet requiring it to be filled up with electricity from the alternator. Turn on the headlights. If they are bright, I would start thinking either starter, or your security system is preventing the car from starting because it doesn't recognize your key.
