1mzfe rebuild question

Hey there,
I recently rebuilt a 1mzfe out of a 1995 toyota avalon. Ended up throwing a connecting rod bolt after about 1k miles because the bottom end con rod and main bearing caps have TTY bolts. I looked everywhere to try and find these bolts, even calling a few dealerships does anybody know where I can locate new TTY bolts for the bottom end on my 1mzfe
THank you

torque to yeild bolts. When torqued they are stretched till just before the point of breaking for maximum force. Just like your head bolts on most cars. This motor has them in the bottom end. They cant be reused, once stretched they no longer will return to the orignal size.

If they require a TTY bolt, then buying the bolts from a dealer should ensure that what you get meets spec, without necessarily saying it on the package. That some parts people at a dealership are unfamiliar with that aspect is not surprising, since they don't have to do anything more than order/sell what Toyota lists as replacement parts. They get to rely on Toyota to get it right. Not putting aytone down for that.

I suggest you contact sponsor/TN member Gary Smith, parts manager at Toyota of Newnan. He sells to TN members at 30% off real list, with reasonable shipping.

I need a couple things I would not buy aftermarket - inner fenders and a front bumper cover. How do I contact this guy? Where is Newman? And what's a "member" - somebody who has paid, or just registered?

thanx

Gary posts here under user name TOYOPARTSMAN. You can private message him with a request. You can also scroll down to near the bottom of the FORUM section and see the "Welcome to Toyota of Newnan" (or whatever it says) thread. City is Newnan, GA, so transit time will depend on where you are.

If you can login here at TN, you're a member. A pm or post confirms that.

I've ordered from him about 10 times. Great help; great service; no BS on price or s&H--absolutely what he says, which is 30% off Toyota MSRP on everything, plus actual cost of shipping plus a buck or two for packing materials where applicable. Other big online parts dealer claims 29% off, but the discount doesn't compute to that when you actually look at the numbers. I use them for parts lookup, but their advertising claims are fundamentally misleading, so I choose not to do business with them. With Gary, what he says is what he does. Period.
