Your owners manual should specify the amount. Whether it does or is doesn't, the amount will vary from car to car and is something you have to narrow down yourself...hopefully without running out of gas.....

Next time it comes on, reset one of your trip odometers to zero, and fill up asap. If within a few miles, subtract the fill amount from the listed capacity, and you have your answer. If more than a few miles, adjust for how many miles you drive, using your average mileage and the miles traveled shown on the trip odometer.

Basic arithmetic.

I always thought it was supposed to be between 2-3 gallons. I prefer not to run it down that far. It may not be true but I've been told it's hard on the fuel pump as the fuel helps it stay cool. Someone once told me it costs the same to keep the tank full as it does empty. Of course this wouldn't apply if you're selling it or wreck it.

I've ran out of gas before. My guesstimation is about 100 miles left when at light turns on and 60 miles when the needle is exactly at E.

My sister was always waiting until the low gas light came on before she considered filling up and would run the car for a few more trips. She ended up with a tow bill and an expensive repair bill for a new fuel pump.

Gas does lubricate the fuel pump. It doesn't cost any more to keep the level above the light coming on so why chance it?

i've done it twice to the avy (when delivering pizza back 3-5 years ago). It had about hm 180k back then but it did go i think about 50 miles or 55 at most by my estimations.....Pump did not go bad so our cars are a ok , as my avy has now 245 k but.....after those 2 times i kinda learned is harder to walk for gas , even if it seems like everything is close by.... especially when you have to be somewhere with somebody's food supposedly on time.....

i was just into the fuel tank. i did not see any special apparatus for the fuel light. it must work off the gas gauge float.

gas gauges are not accurate, and on the avvy, especially so. i would get some gas as soon as that light comes on.

it's a defacto standard to have 50 miles of reserve (when the light comes on).

Running gas low continuiosly causes a strong electric fuel pump to suck trash thru filter which in turn cloggs pump.
