Need procedure Avalon Delco Radio

I own a 1st Gen. Avalon 1995 XLS. I have a Working Delco AD1700 installed in vehicle. I am looking for procedure to either extract the currently installed codes for resetting radio or the procedure of how to disarm the thief controls all together so I do not have to deal with it.

Everytime I look into a repair manual it says to disconnect the negative battery terminal before starting work. Of course knowing that the security system on radio will lock it up I have refused to comply. I am going to replace my battery soon and would like to not have to use an extra battery and jumper cables to preform a replacement.

Does anyone know how to extract code or turn off security system in radio. Like I said this is a working radio, not one that is locked up.

thanks in advance

In case no one comes up with the answer you're looking for, maybe consider a $5 code saver that uses a 9v battery and plugs into the lighter outlet.

Just read the owner's manual for my '96. If there is a code installed now, and you don't know what it is, you're outta luck. You can tell if a code is installed by the display; it'll first show "SEC" when the key is turned to the ACC or ON positions.

edit: So if there's no code installed, you've got no problem. The radio will not lock up if you disconnect power.

Is it possible for you to copy the section of your 96 manual concerning radio information that you referred to by either scanning or digital camera. I will give you my email in a private message, I will do that so you could send info. I got car used and no manuals came along with the sale.

thanks in advance

OM's are available online and for free download as PDF at the manufacturer's website. I believe oldest yr. available is 95.

I have seen the online manual areas and believe most of them to be total ripoffs. I am registered with manufacturer website as a Toyota owner and only thing they offer is the option to purchase copy of owners manual for $16 plus shipping and handling fee. Just looking for the procedure; not the entire history of Toyota.

Thanks for the advice but still looking for the FREE OPTION considering what little information I need.

Please read what I actually wrote. The PDF downloads are free. Available for 96 & later. [I think from '95 on]. I know I have downloaded PDF's of the three Toys in my family: a 97 Camry, and 99 & 03 Avalons. All free from the manufacturer's site.
