Gen 1 amp poor sound..help

It's been about 2 months since i upgraded my HU unit with a JVC KD-R520 and just hooked it up using the Best Buy wiring adapter for my 95 avy xls. The sound improved some with the NEW JVC HU but it still has no deep bas like my Concorde 98 factory amp and factory cd/tape setup. I have upgraded the speakers in both cars with about the same quality speakers ...so... as I have seen on here....I blame the factory amp....

Is the 95 factory amp just not too good ...and would the JVC own amp be much better if I just run new wires straight to speakers.

On that note I can leave the existing connections and just not use the Pre amps and just run wires straight to speakers......or would it be better to just cut in the output from the amp....

I am also blaming the amp because the sound, even thought a bit different, seems the same like from the stock HU.........am I right to blame the amp?????

one of these days I will just run a wire to one of the speakers to see how they sound each way......maybe i'm just picky because of the stock quality in my 98 concorde.... but that is a infinity package so....still it bugs me....that and some other things...

I'm nearly certain there are inline bass blockers in the wiring of the door speakers. Be that as it may, 4inch speakers aren't necessarily known for their low frequency response. I would recommend investing in a small subwoofer.

the stock speakers were tuned to the interior of the car. i don't believe they can be bought, now. there is a single hole for a 10 inch sub in the rear deck. my car does not have the sub or a hole and a grill in the read deck cover. i've done my share of junkyard wandering and i have yet to find one that does. occasionally i find one with the rear deck cover gone... i don't think a sub would be a good thing without the rear deck cover that allows its use?

i've been an audiophile all my adult life. the first thing i will do is to state what should be obvious - "better" sound is a perception, not a fact... unless you're going from a boom box to a great system, or something silly like that.

amps. well, they amplify. if they add "coloration" that is distortion - making sounds that were not fed into them. you should be able to switch amps and never know it (at reasonable volumes, etc.) if not, something's wrong.

many worship specs - total harmonic distortion, output power, etc. etc. etc. long ago i decided if i can't hear it, it is not real...

in real-world, cheapo stuff like car stereos, manufacturers have invented circuitry that creates a "sound" for their products in order to identify, and individualize their brand. if your jvc sounds "better" than your avalon amp something weird is going on because the "sound" of jvc (and all brands) is created, long before the waveform gets to the power amp stage. i.e. it is being fed to the avalon amp, just as it will be to the amp inside the unit.

those avalon amps are not slackers. they will blow all but the toughest speakers (if you listen to anything with some bass). so if you hear a difference it SHOULD be only at extreme volumes, and the result of the output and current limiting of the two amps. far more likely you will fry the tiny speakers you can use in the avvy before that difference can become apparent.

the avalon has speaker cabinets in the doors - tiny, tuned bass reflex enclosures. by far the best thing that could be done, in this car, is to buy some stock speakers because they match the enclosures, into which they will be placed. i don't think toyota will sell you the real speakers for this car. i could be wrong?

The factory amp isn't strong enough, IIRC, it only puts out 17 RMS, which is nothing. What I would do is get a regular wiring harness adapter and wire the speakers directly to the headunit and bypass the amp.

It's an 8inch, I still have my factory sub. Look at ES300s too as they have identical parts.

A long, long time ago when I had my pioneer radio in my Avalon, I wound up bypassing the factory amp because I couldn't get my hands on the fancy-pants rca/line level harness for the XLS. I thought the pioneer radio directly driving the stock speakers sounded beasty. Just be sure to do some sort of high-pass filter around 30-50Hz. It might also be good to add, that it was a DEH 6900, and was 22 watts-rms per channel.

After I upgraded to a pair of JBL 4 channel amplifiers in the trunk, I still used the stock speakers for some time untill I blew them up after a good two years of inhumane abuse.

Whenever I have some time I will bypass as I feel that it is the amp......i'm no audio maniack so the jvc's 60 per channel should be ok.. I would not mess with it if it would sound close to my conxorde's factory amp.....but its a far far cry....i have bass, but that bonginess high pitch kinsa beside bass is anoying...ans with factory deck was horrible which izs why I went to aftermarket deck.

^^Update....

did hook up 2 extra speakers i had and run them under the seats ...( i have yet to make and enclosure for them or even bolt them down...they just sitting under the seats) .....but my dinkie jinkie JVC HU (about 90$ bucks on best buy) isn't much better on it's own.......a bit better then the stock radio but still nothing like the Chrysler Infinity stock stereo's and amps so......

Bonzo you are probably ok, the amp might be ok is just....the HU unit that is cheapo bad so...... after new years, or sooner, I will honor the avy, after the beat down it gets and the miles it has been holding up to.....with a much nicer HU ...maybe even dvd playback.... something that will put out decent sound....under 250$......

thus......any suggestions from past experiences with head units.....greatly welcome >.......

also, anything that looks more stock......so any suggestions ?????
