How do I replace the gear shift box center console bulb in a '98 Avalon?

My center console, under the shifter, used to light up the P, R, N, D...etc. It's now dark.

All other interior electrical in the car, including dome light, door lights, radio, etc. work fine -- so I don't think it's a fuse thing, I think it's a bulb.

But, can anyone tell me: is there a fuse that covers just that bulb?

Otherwise, how do I replace the bulb? I am unable to find instructions, and I can't even figure out what the part would be -- I seem to be unable to find that bulb at any of the online parts sellers.

I haven't been able to find any posts relating to this particular problem in this car, so pointers would be helpful.

Thanks!

I doubt a fuse covers just that bulb, but to be sure, check all of your fuses in both fuse boxes. Takes just a second using a needle nose pliers.

The trim around the shifter pops up and out. its secured by 4 clips, 1 on each corner. If I recall correctly the bulb is mounted under the now exposed black box that the shift lever comes out of. Should twist right out like any other bulb.

Thanks -- I'll give that a try. Do you know where to buy the replacement bulb?

Well, I'm taking an educated stab in the dark and saying its a 194 bulb. The socket and bulb will twist out of the shifter housing, and then you can pull/replace the bulb out of the twisty socket.

Or you know, once you have it out you can take it to an advance auto or whatever and have them tell you what kind of bulb it is.
