1996 Avalon XL Problem with Exhaust and Steering Column
Hello First off I just want to say that I haven't posted here much if not at all. So greetings to everyone that uses this forum. I have a 1996 Toyota Avalon with around 250k miles. The engine is running strong but something is wrong with the exhaust system and possibly the steering column. Last year I failed my emissions inspection because the flex pipe on the Catalytic converter was rusted and had a hole. I didnt have enough money to take it to a shop and have it replaced. I bought a whole new exhaust system myself from rock auto. Me and my uncle had a hell of a time but we managed to install it without any leaks. However after I started driving I could feel friction in my steering column. I thought it was nothing serious but when I turned hard I could hear something scrapping under the hood. I checked it myself but couldnt find the cause. However now a hole as opened up and the exhaust is extremely loud now. The steering wheel is vibrating much more now. First off I want to say do not buy a catalytic converter from rock auto... it doesnt fit! Secondly does anyone know what the problem could be? It all stems from changing my exhaust system. Any help would be awesome I want to fix this myself.
Thanks
