Separating wood grain dash trim - anyone removed it completely?

What appears to be a common problem, I have a 98 Avalon XLS and the plastic on top of the wood grain decals on the dash is separating. On a couple of places I have completely pulled off the plastic. I am thinking about totally removing all of these pieces, not just the plastic but the wood grain underneath. I am going to be selling this car and I think this might look better. The large dash components are actually plastic with just a wood grain pattern.

Has anyone done this? Does it look better? The trim around the window controls on both front doors don't have any (I think it was pulled off by the previous owner) and it looks fine. Is this going to be a PITA to pull off and clean?

I found this thread on a quick search of the 1st Gen forum. If you search for additional threads you should be able to turn up a couple more.

Thanks TrailDust. I did search previously (believe it or not!) but turned up nothing, I must have just been using the wrong keywords. Thanks again.

I'll just use a hairdryer and carefully pull it all off.

That is exactly what I did with mine. Used the hair dryer and SLOWLY removed it. (Didn't read the other link, BUT....) To get rid of all the "goo stuff" that is left behind, be sure to use Mineral Spirits. That will not harm your paint, etc... but removed the stuff SUPER easily.
