98 avalon the abs light is on and the trac off light blinks, i tried jumping the dlc to see what happens and the trac off light blinks 4 and 3, can someone point me if this is a code and what it means.
Autozone scanner is for check engine and toyota is not covered in their abs scanner.
thanks for your reply, i'll check once again in the morning to be sure if it's 34 or 43, however i was wondering isint the ABS light supposed to blink the codes out as in this case it's the trac off light blinking the codes when i jump the dlc.
so today i figured i was jumping the dlc wrong, initially i had not taken out the short pin which i did not pay attention to as it was in one of the manuals that camry's and avalon's don't have one. After i saw it today i took it out and jumped the dlc and this time the abs was giving the codes out i tried a few times so i could keep up with it and get it right i hope i got the codes rite, here's what came up 22 23 24 27 34
btw the trac off was giving the same 43 code whatever that code means
22 – Left Front Solenoid Circuit Open Or Short Circuit Condition
23 – Rear Solenoid Circuit Open Or Short Circuit Condition
34 – Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction

thank you for the info and the website you mentioned is great especially for the codes. I've parked the car for now, the weather is strong so i can't mess around much outside plus money is tight to buy parts. I suspect most of the issue at LR wheel i feel it needs a hub assembly and the sensor with wiring as the car was hit once on that end, and the abs acted up after that. May post or PM in the future once i get on it again. thanks again.
By "hub assembly", do you mean the bearing cartridge? If so, I made a DIY thread to replace that here. I've done one on my Avy too, and it's exactly the same procedure; even takes the same part, as a matter of fact. It's REALLY easy. Also the price of a bearing cartridge has gone down quite a bit since I did that; about $50 on eBay.

i'm gonna bookmark the DIY thanks for sharing i like the pics, i'll do the rear one in a few weeks time, seems easy and while i'm at it i'll replace at least one sensor on the left and turn both the rotors..i do have the shaking issue with the car from behind however i was told the rotors need to be turned and by looking at them it's apparent they need turning, shaking is not that serious at least yet and you know what since after reading your DIY im guessing the wheel bearing may be adding to that shaking along with the rotors. I'll skip the front i don't think the bearings are bad in the front plus i don't have a torque wrench/breaker bar/impact wrench and strong sockets to gets those nuts/bolts open especially the axle can be hard. I remember calling around one time asking prices for the press in and the machine shops here didnt seem so open to do them for some reason, napa was ok if i bought the bearing from them...for a higher price ofcourse. yeah the rear hub assy/bearing cartridge are like $39-$40 w/abs free shipping on ebay, i don't have a attached garage so that's the bad part in winter here. Thanks again.
Crayon143, I have a couple of suggestions for you. Autozone will rent you the tools you need for a deposit. If you return the tools within 90 days you will get a full refund. That might help you save some money and they don't require you to buy the wheel bearing hub from them.
2. Wheel bearings can be checked by jacking up the wheel and feeling for play/movement at 12 and 6 o'clock positions. Any play, time to replace the bearing.
3. Wheel bearings in need of replacement can contribute to rotor warpage. You might take one off and bring it to an auto parts store to have the thickness checked.
4. If you're in the Grand Rapids area, let me know. I can give you some recommendations on places to buy parts cheap.
thanks for the reply fourwheeler im in the metro detroit area, i've put a pause on this troubleshoot as i recently discovered sludge in my car(i posted the link to pics under thread "how bad does this look"), i'm gonna take care of that first and come to this.
