New member, first post, heater control, light

Hi everyone,

A little searching came up empty so thought I just make a first post.

'97 Avalon. Couple of minor heater issues.

LED for "auto" won't stay lit. I've got the thing completely apart. Can't tell if it's the LED or the switch. Previous to disassemble it would work on occasion. It appears that the LED is nothing more than an indicator so all should work without it correct? The defrost LED won't light either FWIW but don't use it much.

Also I see there are 3 very small removable lights. Only one works. Is there a LED replacement or correct bulb #.

That's it for now, thanks again.

Don

Function shouldn't be impeded at all. The indicator LED for my floor/defrost vent select is toast, but the operation works fine. I'd suggest replacing the bulb, but I know in that section of the HVAC stack is really tricky to get a soldering iron into unless you remove all the plastic guides for the button/switch assembly.

For a LED replacement for the removable bulbs, you're going to have to wait for someone else to chime in, as I dont have any experience with the plug-and-play solutions.

Edit: Using the power of the inter-butz i found out that that small twist in bulb is a 74 style.

You can also tell if your defroster is working, when you push the button you should hear a relay click on the driver side of the dash (i think, location-wise) And it should automatically turn/click off after 10 minutes.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for my late reply... Anyway, HVAC seems to be working correctly now. Maybe unplugging and plugging did the trick? I found some chepo bulbs at a local foreign car parts house. $1.50 ea. Nice.

Will take the control apart again, check that there is even juice at those sockets and test the new bulbs. Assuming I have juice and these bulbs won't work for some reason I now have your info. Very much appreciate the input.

Side note: Cruise now works thanks to a simple R&R of the plug in the engine compartment. Found that on this site as well.

I'm one of those that says "if it's there it should work." So you folks have already saved me a bunch of time and probably some $$ as well.
