Replacing alternator on Avalon

Started having problem on a 98 Avalon.

Started out when trying to start it, but nothing happens. Then tried jump starting the battery and it came up immediately. After 5 mins of driving and when trying to close window, the light on dash dimmed when window switched was used, then shortly after, the car stopped.

Was able to jump the car and came right up again to park it in a safe location.

My hunch sounds like problem w. alternator.

If anyone esle differs and if alternator, how difficult it is to replace and any specail tools neccessary.

Can do some basic work such as oil change and brake job.

well if you can change the oil and breaks your more than good for this job. all you have to have is a wrench and and detention the belt and then remove it then the alternator it self. and maybe you should take it to a shop and have it tested to see if it's not the regulator i'm not too sure on how to test those. but then install is the reverse of taking it out, if you get a new unit then you have to make sure you take the tentoner off the old one or else it wount mount and it's not easy to bolt on while still in the car.
