avalon car radio preset stations getting reset

I have a 98 Toyota Avalon with original cd player/radio installed. It has stopped remembering my preset radio stations which is really annoying. At first I thought it was my kids resetting everything. Then I thought I was imagining it. Now I know something is definitely wrong with it.

Nothing else seems wrong with the car. The clock does not get reset, just the preset radio stations. The radio/cd player just loses memory of what stations are preset and what cd track I last played.

If I turn the car off and then back on, the stations do not get reset. It only happens when the car is turned off for a few hours.

Do you mean disconnect the battery and reconnect to see if the problem goes away?

Or do you mean to ask if I disconnected the batter recently and the problem started happening after that?

I had that problem and it was driving me nuts. Occasionaly, battery seemed to be weak on charge. Traced it to a not so tight connection on the battery.

Cleaned up the posts and terminals and problem went away.

Presets are stored by constant supply of power to head unit.
