Unhappy abs light on!

i replaced the rear suspension on my 98 Avalon XL (3.0L V6), and after everything was bolted up, i got a ABS light on my dash gauge. i got a code 39 (left rear speed sensor). i reset the ABS light, but it came right back on. i took off the left rear tire and inspected the wiring and such, but everything seemed to be ok.

do i need to replace the left rear speed sensor? where is the connector for the sensor? will this be pretty straightforward?

thanks

try disconnecting the battery for 3 minutes then put is back on, if not take it to the dealer. I don't think its a big thing, maybe its misligned or something....

Disconnecting the battery for a year won't clear the light.

If the ABS light is on. There is a problem. Like you found out. Left rear wheel speed sensor.

What kind of suspension work did you do ?? Struts ??
If you did. Did you take the 10mm bolt that holds the abs wire to the body ? I you didn't and you somehow lowered the suspension and might have stretched the abs wire .

One way to check is get access to the connector in the back seat bolsters and ohm them out. If it's "OPEN" then it's not reading anything.

this sucks a**

I too have the same problem for about 2 years now. I've tried to clean the sensor itself and the light turned off for about 2 blocks and turned back on. I also have a reading on the left front speed sensor on my 1999 toyota tacoma v6 4x4 ( I haven't taken it off-roading yet!!). I could have sworn I got the Tacoma LEMON!! To this day, my ABS light is still on. I'm thinking about trading it in for a NISSAN now!

Nad 1370 is right on.
If you stretched the wire in the wheel sensor you need to buy a new on at the tune of about $200. They are injection molded, and you can't get the wires back in. If it says wheel speed sensor odds are it is. I'd watch ebay as they just had a left front for $40, which sucks as I need a left rear. I also dont' know how to remove them as I tried with mine. I hope I don't have to pull hub to repair. Abs wiln't work as long as light is on too! Really sucks

Yea, the same thing happened to my mothers 02 Camry LE. We were just driving on a wet rainy night, (yesterday) and "Click." I looked over, and saw ABS.We had not even pressed on the brake. My mother did not have ABS on her package. Plus, I thought TRAC was supposed to come on when it is rainy, not ABS? And until this time, it remains on.

from what i know, this happens a lot.
try putting the car in drive .. jam on the gas then brake hard.
try it a couple of times, it usually works for me if im too lazy
to get the obd to clear it. thats only if all sensors are operating normal.
and if the light comes on, but the abs is still functioning.

A number of people here including myself (Camry) have had the same problem after changing struts. Do a search if you wish. nodrogkam has reported there is a TSB that says to remove the ABS sensors before changing the struts. rasta420, your left rear ABS sensor is broken, your ABS is not working, and the only way to turn the warning light off is to get the sensor replaced.
