question about wheels and offset numbers

Hello All,

Please help me out with this one. I found a set of 16" Lexus wheels. The offset for the wheels are 45mm. Will this fit on my 97 Avalon with no problems?? Does the offset number for wheels change with size?? If I wanted 18's, would the offset be different?? 17's and so forth?? Please help. I am really wanting to upgrade/change my wheels. I can't bear looking at the stock wheels that came on my Avalon. Any help would be great!!

PS - I tried looking up the forum search for previous threads, but couldn't find any that helped.

Thanks,

they will fit no prob. Size of the wheel(17s, or 18s) has no effect on the offset. I think +30 offset is perfect but +40 or +45 will be no prob they will just sit in a little closer to the car. the lower the offset the more the wheel is pushed out pretty much.

I don't know about that. I got some 16" lexus gs 300 rims, the 5spoke ones and I had trouble with it. The front rim fit fine with the tire that came with it 215/60/16 but the thread is short. It still catches but only about 10 turns of the lug. the rear rim with tire didn't fit at all. Both too wide and big. So I had to get a whole new set of tires and bolts. The current tires now are 205/55/16 all around. I also went with longer lugs, 45mm oppose to 37mm on the rear tires.

Putting the lugs on was a complete bitch. Taking it off was easy but fitting it back in, good luck. I spent hours trying just the rear lugs. The front I left alone because it still tighten the rim.

Overall looks good, but spent WAY TOO MUCH. Do some research on offset, thread length or current rims and the pending rims. Trust me, don't make an expensive mistake like me. I spent 600 on the rims and tires off of Ebay only to end up throwing the tires away and getting new ones for 320. So a total of 920!!!!!

I am sad now thinking about my mistake

Canada Offset - wheel diameter/width

16" Lexus rims with an offset of 45mm should fit. The offset for the stock rims are 42mm. If the Lexus rims are 6" wide (same as stock) the rims will sit 3mm to the inside of the wheel well.

I just finished putting 16" X 7" - 50mm offset Enkeis on my 96 Avalon and they fit perfect. I had to stick with 205/55/16 otherwise there would have been major rubbing.

Good luck.

Yeah mines were 16x7.5 so I needed longer lugs.

Question Longer lugs?

Why would you need longer lugs? A wider rim doesn't mean you need longer lugs/studs. You might need a spacer to ensure there is no rubbing on the spring assembly, but longer lugs/studs wouldn't do sh*t. The rims still sits flush with the brake disc hub assembly no matter how long the studs are.

Doesn't make any sense...

Thanks,
Here is a link that might help http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html. Keep in mind that the bigger the rim dia ie. 18" the wider the tire is required. Also you need to calulate your current rolling diameter. Here is another site that will help http://www.csgnetwork.com/tireinfo4calc.html. I went through this with a 2005 Avalon that had 17" rims with 215/55/R17,and I wanted 18" rims. I ended up with 235/45/R18 tires and a 7.5 in. wide rim because of the rear strut is very close. Went from +45mm offset to +40mm. Have new set of 17" rims and tires that are just sitting there.
