actually, the illum wire on most decks gives the ability to dim the radio in the same way your dash is dimmed. It all depends on what type of signal your illum wire is expecting to see, and what you car uses. Some cars use a drain to ground, others a positive connection. It can be a serious pain to figure out which it is and where to tap in to make it work right. Putting on the parking brake lights will dim it (if it is the correct polarity) when they are on so at least it does something though.
