Thank you all for posting those pictures. It looks to me like in 2003 Toyota stopped using the EGR valve in the Avalon. I don't know if 3rd generation Avalons have them or not. I had read somewhere on the internet that they stopped using EGR valves sometime in 2003.

2000-2004 does not have an EGR valve. It was explained to me that the VVT-i controls how exhaust gas is fed back into the cylindars. Don't ask me to explain it.
